CURRENT SERIES: RED LETTERS

This year, we are taking a journey through the New Testament. It begins with 4 accounts of Jesus called the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John. We are looking at the words of Jesus found in the first four books of the New Testament. He has words of life, hope, peace, and guidance. 

RECAP

Today, we looked at the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7. It’s over 2000 words from Jesus in one of his most famous texts from the red letters in the gospels. Jesus presents a vision for a new way of living in His kingdom, outlining how He will fulfill the prophecies and the law from the Old Testament. He wraps up the sermon with a choice. REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

1) Read Matthew 5-7 ( https://www.bible.com/bible/111/MAT.5.NIV ) and make notes of what stands out to you in the sermon from Jesus.

2) Matthew 5:44 – “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Who in my life do I quietly treat as an “enemy,” and what would it look like to actively pray for their good this week?

3) Matthew 6:21 – “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” If someone looked at how I spend my money, time, and attention, what would they conclude is my true treasure?

4) Matthew 7:24 – “Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Am I actually living out Jesus’ words in tangible ways, or mostly just admiring them from a distance?
