CURRENT SERIES: RED LETTERS

This year, we are taking a journey through the New Testament. It begins with 4 accounts of Jesus called the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John. We are looking at the words of Jesus found in the first four books of the New Testament. He has words of life, hope, peace, and guidance.

RECAP

This week we did an overview of Jesus’ life in the gospels and how He fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament of the Messiah.

BIBLE

Matthew 8:16-17, Matthew 26:67, Matthew 27:12, Mark 8:27-30, Luke 9:18-27

QUESTIONS: Read Luke 9:18-27

  1. Revelation and Prayer:
Luke notes that Jesus was praying when the disciples recognized who He was.
How does prayer shape your own understanding of who Jesus is?
Are there areas of your life where you need revelation, not just information, about Him?
  2. Redefining the Cross:
Jesus calls His followers to deny themselves and take up their cross daily.
What “cross” might Jesus be asking you to carry right now — something that involves surrendering control, reputation, or comfort?
How does viewing that cross as participation in His story (not punishment) change your attitude toward it?
  3. True Life vs. Self-Preservation:
Jesus says those who try to save their life will lose it.
In what ways do you find yourself trying to “save” your own life — through achievement, image, or safety?
What might it look like for you to lose that self for the sake of the gospel and find a deeper kind of life?

JOURNALING

“Lord Jesus, help me to see where I’m still trying to hold on to my own version of life instead of following You into Yours. Teach me what it means to deny myself, not out of guilt but out of love. Show me how to live the kind of surrendered, cross-shaped life that reveals Your kingdom even now.”

Then, write freely for 10–15 minutes reflecting on this:

  • What part of your identity, comfort, or ambition feels hardest to lay down right now?
  • What would resurrection life look like on the other side of that surrender?
