CURRENT SERIES: START NEW

This year, we are taking a journey through the New Testament. We are currently in the book of Acts. This covers the beginning of the church, and we are looking at a fresh start for a few of the apostles.

RECAP

This week, we continued our study through the book of Acts. We looked at Acts 3-6, 11 & 12. We looked at Peter’s story of renewal and impact. Peter went from denying Christ to becoming the rock on which He built His church. Peter was just an ordinary man, but He received power when the Holy Spirit came on him. We should follow His example and look to the Spirit for real power in our lives.

QUESTIONS: Read Acts 4

The Power Behind the Name Read Acts 4:7, 10, 12 — “By what power or what name did you do this?”
Question: What does it mean that “there is no other name under heaven” by which we must be saved — in a world (ancient or modern) that claims many sources of power, status, and identity?

  • How might this challenge the way we trust in political, social, or religious “names” today?
  • How do you personally rely on the name of Jesus as power, not just as a label?

2️⃣ Spirit-Filled Boldness vs. Religious Authority Read Acts 4:8–13 — Peter, “filled with the Holy Spirit,” speaks before the high priestly council.
Question: What would it look like for the Holy Spirit to fill your life?

  • How can you be more in tune with the Holy Spirit
  • How could the power of the Holy Spirit affect different areas of your life?

3️⃣ “We cannot stop speaking” — Compelled Witnes Read Acts 4:19–20 — Peter and John reply, “We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
Question: What does it look like when faith becomes compelling rather than compulsory — when you can’t help but speak about Christ?

  • What holds us back from that kind of witness today?
  • How might firsthand experience with God’s work (vs. secondhand religion) change how we speak about our faith?
